While reviewing some of my previous posts, I remembered that my FI '81 spider seems to run with the AFM unit completely unplugged. I just verified this is the case - isn't the AFM needed to operate the fuel pump? Car seems to start and run at 1000RPM this way. Pump does not appear to be 'hard wired' as I don't hear it when I turn the key. Historically the pump will run if the AFM is connected and I move the AFM flap which I believe is normal.
How is this possible? Something fundamental I'm not understanding?
All of this due to my going back and revisiting my fast idle post from a few years ago. http://www.fiatspider.com/f15/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=36225
