Hi everyone
I have a 1978 spider which has a few odd jobs required to finish a long running project. One of these jobs is to connect up the rear trunk release which has never been connected while I have owned the car so I don't really know how it should be put together.
My car has the lock off set to the right hand side near the tail lamp and inside the trunk there is a long plastic connecting rod connected to the lock release. I would like a picture if possible of how this should connect up to the actual lock barrel.
Many thanks in advance.
Marti

See: Page 70-25/26 in the Fiat Shop Manual. If you don't have a copy, an electronic version is available at Mirafiori.com under Library. If it wasn't such a pain to post photos on this site, I would upload the page.

Re: Help needed with rear trunk release
Many thanks,
So part 7 (rod) should reach across to part 6 (lock) and there does not appear to be anything holding the two parts together.
Maybe the rod on my car is modified as it does not seem long enough, a PO added a cable to the latch which was routed to the rear seat area

Re: Help needed with rear trunk release
Hi Marti
I don't have access to my car right now, but I do believe from memory that the two ends are kept in place by a swivel screw on both ends.

Re: Help needed with rear trunk release
Yeah, Marti. Just got done with this portion of my car. The 'rod' extends across the rear of the trunk and is attached to a shank on a lever of the lock cylinder by a nut and washer. The lock cylinder turns the lever. I think that I can get some pics if you need,...
I also have a better solution to trunk release problems than the one your PO created.
Todd.

Re: Help needed with rear trunk release
I'm working on my 75 spider and would love to hear about the trunk release you built.
Pictures would be great too.
