I have lots of the OE red carpet pieces for my '81...but not all of them. I have learned that the front half of the floor carpets were rubber mats. Those are long gone. PO says the rear pieces were also rubber. Anyone confirm that?
What have others done to patch up those missing rubber mats? I'd not mind getting aftermarket carpeted floor mats but do they go all the way up the firewall to the attachment points? And does anyone know if there is a source for OE style ribbed carpet?

Re: Original carpets?
Yes, the rubber part on the front carpet went from the firewall down to the pedal area, then along the driver's side and passenger side floorboards about 18" or so. Most just cut one piece of carpet for the floor and firewall just like the aftermarket kits, then sew in a foot pad area like this: http://www.worlduph.com/fiat/124_spider/carpet/#*
The rears were carpeting in 1981. They were rubber in earlier years.

Re: Original carpets?
I simply bought 4uall's original used carpet pieces when he replaced his, years ago! A good washing, some minor sewing repair, some protectorant rubbed into the rubber sections, and they look almost like new! Red has been tough to obtain,...
My '79 Spider has rubber in the rear, but it sounds like your's should have carpet,...Spidernut knows.

Re: Original carpets?
I'm sure spidernut is correct but after a long talk with the PO, and a search through his attic, the conclusion is that they either were rubber (which he swears) and disintegrated, or he tossed out the rear carpets. The latter seems unlikely as he went to the trouble of keeping all the other bits. In either case, I'm left short. So any thoughts on the various carpet sets available? Seems to be a wide price range out there. Big difference in fit, quality? Recommendations?
