Glove Box Won't Open

I opened the glovebox on my 1980 to retrieve an item, closed it and later it would not open. The handle turns but the latch does not release. Tried the key for the heck of it though I have never used the key before and still no luck. grrr
Any suggestions?

I had to force mine open with a screwdriver. The small screw that holds the latch to the lock cylinder had come loose. It was an easy fix once it was open, but prying the dash was nerve racking.

I have done this also using a plastic HF upholstery pry tool
