I have a 1.4 with a 4-2-1 header, the center resonator removed and an ANSA exhaust. Maybe a bit loud for some but I like the tone.
This is what was on the car when I purchased it.

I have a stock exhast on my 81 and I like it. My 82 had an ANSA and I liked it with and without the cat. I liked it better without the cat. The 82 now has a performance exhast from AR. I only like it with the cat. A good exhast is in the ears of the owner. You may not like what I like I don't want it to be loud when I am on the road, but just so I can here it.

Removed the Cat Con on my 80 FI and replaced it with a test pipe, the sound is much richer and the flow less restricted.

The straight pipe is definitely louder, but I like it, just enough rumble and grumble when you get on it. I still have the rear muffler and resonator in there after the pipe.
