Washer pump removal

My pump works but grommet leaks. Okay, I need to remove the pump. Uh...how? I've gone through the threads but no one covers this. I tried just flat out pulling but was worried about ripping the tiny motor in half. I can't see any way to get any tool in my garage to the bottom of the tank to lever the metal retaining washer. Suggestions?

Are you talking about the washer pump on the windshield washer bag or the water pump?

Sorry: windshield washer pump, the one mounted into the hard plastic tank.

Depends on the tank however most now just have a barb on the pump that is pressed through the grommet and it takes a little finesse to wiggle, rotate and work them out especially if its cold. There are some that require a quarter turn to get them out however you will be turning the pump at least that much to work the plain grommet type out.

Bright light and a warm tank/pump are the biggest requirements to get it more easily done.

If it has a spring fork retainer in the tank then you need a long screwdriver that you may have to modify in order to remove the fork or possibly some long pliers specifically for working in tight spots.

Does anyone have a source or alternative part number for a rubber grommet that works? I got mine out as it was leaking and know Autoricambi has a grommet but it's 9 bucks plus probably another 9 for shipping and I don't need any other parts right this second. I am guessing there is some solution out there to keep using the stock pump with a new grommet. . .
