I am just about to embark on fixing up my 1973 Fiat spider. I have a question about the engine type. On the block it states 132.B1000, 545648. But I dont see any reference to this number on the charts online?
The stamp under the hood is 124 CS 0064233. How do I check what all the components SHOULD be on the car? What other information do I need to search for? Thinking about Carbs, gearbox and suspension. As everyone has mentioned theres a lot of variation in parts. I am in Europe so unfortunately I cant use Vick Auto parts for spares! They are much cheaper than the european options.
My plan is to over haul the engine, new radiator, replace or refurbish suspension, drive train and gear box. This will take a while as I use my car as a daily run around. One step at a time and want to do all the research for parts first.
Thank you in advance for all your advice.

Re: engine type confusion
I'm pretty sure you have an engine from another type of Fiat. From what I can find it looks to be an 1800cc motor, which would be larger than stock.

Re: engine type confusion
this was my issue. however if it is larger than its suppossed to be it will explain why the guys had difficulty getting gaskets etc when I forst bought it 5-6 years ago... Thank you for the advice. I would really like to know how this would affect the drive train and gearbox???

Re: engine type confusion
The 132 engine family was used in the Fiat 131 and 132 sedan families as well as the later Spiders. It came in three sizes. All used the same 84mm bore diameter. Only the stroke varied. If you measure the stoke, it will tell you which of the three engine sizes you have. If the engine is original to your car then you are likely to have the 1585 engine.
1585cc - 84 x 71.5mm
1756cc - 84 x 79.2mm
1995cc - 84 x 90mm
This is a U.S. based website. Most large Fiat sedans of the 70's and 80's and their 132B engines were not exported to the U.S. Posting your query on a European Fiat website such as http://www.guy-croft.com/viewforum or http://131mirafiori.com/ may be more fruitful.

Re: engine type confusion
My 1973 has its original 132 engine and most parts catalogs recognize this. Its displacement is 1592cc. I don't know if the European versions used this engine for 1973 or not.
