Charcoal Filter Canister
Hi Everyone, I'm looking for a Charcoal Filter Canister for my 1975 Fiat Spider 124. I'm having a venting problem with the gas tank. Sending Unit works fine. Tank is clean, no sludge. Fuel pump works fine. Mechanic says lets try a new filter cause the original could be soaked and not working properly. Found one brand new but quite pricey. It has three tubes coming out the bottom. Have a pic but can't figure out how to post it. THanks. David. dross4646@yahoo.com . Or here.

Re: Charcoal Filter Canister
You could open the one you have and just replace the charcoal. If you search there are a few threads on doing that. It's pretty easy and very inexpensive.

Re: Charcoal Filter Canister
I think before replacing the Charcoal Filter Canister I would used compressed air and blow out thee line from the back of the car to the front. On later model cars there is a 2 way valve located above the driver side rear axle. This valve corrodes shut and prevents the fuel tank from venting through the charcoal canister. I don't know if your car has this valve but if it does I would remove it and inspect it.

Re: Charcoal Filter Canister
+1, it sits right above the rear axle, driver's side. Very frequently clogged.

Re: Charcoal Filter Canister
It's possible to replace the carbon with active carbon used in fish tank filters , just visit your local pet shop .
BUT you need to be very careful with handling and disposing of the old carbon .Finely divided active carbon saturated with gasoline can spontaneously ignite, with no need for an ignition source or even heat .
Work outside, dump the old carbon onto a metal tray , spread it thinly and leave it for 24 hours to allow any gasoline to evaporate.
Don't simply open the canister , dump the old carbon into the garbage and put the lid on the garbage can
