No first hand experience, but I’ve always heard good things about Cibie H4s and Auto Ricambi has them.

Re: Headlights?
They are a standard round sealed beam headlamp widely available at most local auto parts stores and the larger Walmarts. Same as the round sealed beams on a traditional Jeep. They are nothing special or exotic and should cost less than $10 each.

Re: Headlights?
The standard round sealed beam headlights will work but if you can afford them, I'd go with the Cibie H4. The Cibie is an E-code lens and throws a much better light pattern than the sealed beam units. Drive up to your garage door at night and you'll see what I mean. The E-code lens concentrates the light down the road and not scattered all over like the sealed beam. I have e-codes in my daily driver Saab as well. I think they are even better than the fancy HID lights in my wife's car.

Just be careful to get the DOT Approved Headlamp version and not the Clear Lens Non-DOT Approved Fog Lamp with the Cibie.

Be sure to upgrade your wiring to the headlight relay kit available from the vendors (Vicks, Autoricambri) on this site as better brighter headlights could overload your present wiring through the switch.

Re: Headlights?
I cannot emphasized enough what Warren just posted…I just performed the Relay upgrade on my ‘79, and man! What a difference! I used the Vick’s kit—pretty much a plug and play setting besides of the non din supplied connectors (what’s up with those Vick?!). But seriously, a real improvement in the way my headlights illuminate now…and not only on the headlights, the instruments’ lighting also got brighter!
