Water Pump Pulley Flange Broke Off?!

Post by Shadoobie »

So I has to have my first hagerty tow today because the flange that accepts the bolts for the water pump pulley ripped two of the bolts off! The bolts are fine, but the flanges have huge chunks ripped out of them and the pulley is just dangling loose. Has anyone ever had this problem with an aftermarket pump?

that's a new one. Sounds like the threads may be stripped and the bolts worked loose.

I have seen this before, usually indication of prior front-end accident. Rad is usually pushed back and cooling fan knocks the water pump pulley, cracking flange. Can also occur due to over-tensioned alternator or misaligned alternator bracket.
