Hey Turbofiat124, ORFORD2004, how hard to push stock driveline?
I have finally finished my turbo conversion and am wondering how hard you are willing to push a stock driveline?
My Car
1980, 5spd
Stock 83 block and pistons
80 2 ltr head with a very mild port (removed casting flash, smoothed sharp edges of the combustion chamber, gasket port match) SS exhaust valves and new 3 angle grind, stock 1800 cams
FIAT Chroma turbo head gasket
Marks head stud kit
Megasquirt
450cc DSM (first gen) injectors
Toyota COP
Lancia 8V turbo manifold and FIAT spec garret T25.
2,5" downpipe connecting to stock exhaust at location of cat
8V Integrale intercooler
Marks performance clutch
The car has done a couple thousand km and seems to be settling in well! It currently runs 6 lbs of boost and it HUGE FUN to drive .
In respect for the transmission and diff, I try to keep out of boost in 1st gear and am gentle in 2nd. However 3rd, 4th, and 5th at WOT are fantastic and I want more!
Questions for you both (and any others with experience) as I believe you have both turboed relatively stock cars.
1. What is the max psi (I know this is a poor indicator but I cannot measure much else) are you running on a daily basis?
2. Do you have any experience with driveline failures? Areas to look out for?
3. My real question. As long as I keep it to 6lbs, can I drive it like I just robbed a bank without too many worries ????
Thanks!
Jordan

Yep!! Like a different car when you can drag race Mustangs up a hill!
So.... You drive the car hard at 8psi?
Redline in all gears?
Hard starts (not dumping clutch or burnouts)?
Anything you do not do?

Never push in 1. Shift hard sometimes. No Burnout.

Burgandy, do you have any pictures of your engine?
Is the Toyota COP the Toyota Coul On Plug system?

Hi,
Yes, lots of pictures but I was frustrated trying to post them so I gave up. Does anyone have any suggestions from Google photo storage?
And yes, it is the Toyota Coil-On-Plug system. Works great!

I use imgr, which is still free and has a direct link feature that you can copy and paste between the img boxes on the forum.
To be honest though you should use the search feature on the home page of the forum and read one of the step by step tutorials on posting pictures.
Others have written excellent directions that I couldn’t come close to duplicating.
In the meantime, if you’re willing to pm me your google drive link I’d love to see what you’ve built.

ORFord, I’m curious why you do not push the car in 1st.
Could the car be damaged if you did?

Because the 1 gear is so short, the turbo will spin the wheel instantly so i shift early.ORFord, I’m curious why you do not push the car in 1st.
In 2 gear, if you floor the gas, the wheel will spin at around 3500-4000RPM.
And if you want to keep your diff, no burnout.

For others you have to go into google drive, select the photo, click Share and then Copy Link and change the link from this...

Burgandy81 nice setup!
Can I ask what injectors you are running?
Looks like a Lancia Dedra/Tempra Intake manifold. Below is your photo that I put on our site. If you have any more images I can place them for you.

Re: Hey Turbofiat124, ORFORD2004, how hard to push stock driveline?
Thanks Ralph!
I am running DSM Gen 1 450cc injectors, called Blue Tops. These are the injectors for Eagle Talons / Mitsubishis from back in the day. There are large (flow more than I will ever need) but they are good quality, cheap, and have a single nozzle spray pattern. Only the Gen 1 has the single spray pattern. All the rest have a split nozzles for spraying done different valves in 16V 4 cyl engine. Now that injector parts are available online, this is less of an issue and almost any injector of large enough flow can be modified to work.
Of all the issues I may have, I will never run out of fuel flow!

Did the injectiors fit the stock fuel rail or did you make your own? If you want to create a picture album I can host the images for you.
Thanks
