Hello, all.
I had my '81 on stands today because a couple days ago, I went over a speed bump probably a bit too fast, and afterwards I started hearing a clicking noise coming from under the car.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I bent my oil pan, and it's possible the crank is ever so slightly kissing something now... Not good, I know. That's another thread.
ANYWAY, I had to move it to put my girlfriend's car back in the garage, and the fuel pump stopped coming on. I reached under the car and felt it, and it's HOT as hell to the touch.
Anyone have thoughts? I don't want my house to burn down.

The pump is easy to pull. Just remove it and test it on a battery to see if fluid flows through. If it isn't flowing fluid it will get HOT very fast. Luckily pumps are easy to replace and pretty low cost (well the non-Bosch ones are low cost).

I'm long ways away from my 124 so I don't know how exposed they are but the thought recurred to me that you may have "crimped" the hard fuel line(s) under the frame going over that speed bump keeping the fuel blocked (or slowed down). I think that the fuel flow keeps the pump cool.

Good thoughts, all! I'm feeling like it's a wiring thing. I've kept trying to start it, and about every 15th time I hear the pump run... Ugh, I gotta to some more fiddling, I guess.

Had my GF turn the key to ON while I had my hand on the pump, and I can feel it kind of bump as if it's trying to turn. But it seems like it's just completely seized. Maybe some gunk in the trunk from sitting a while....?

Matt, looks like Vick is out of these fuel pumps currently? Any idea how long it'd take to get one to LA?MattVAS wrote:The pump is easy to pull. We have the Bosch ones in stock right now.
The non-Bosch less expensive ones are on the way now and we should have them about the last week of August or the fist week of September (can't make them inexpensive unless we order about 1000 of them at a time).

Re: Fuel Pump Hot?!
Thanks, Matt. I was able to find one locally here in LA. Your store is great! Will probably be getting an oil pan soon :/
