transmission fill plug wrench size

Post by daved »

Wanted to double check the size wrench required to remove the transmission fill plug. Tried 17 mm but it just won't go on. Also tried 18 mm & 3/4", way too sloppy. Definitely not an allen wrench like the drain plug.

I recall it being 17 mm. Stripped or bunged up? Maybe some judicious filing of the plug.

I think a 17mm works on mine. Hope that helps.

My experience with that plug, I sprayed it with pb blaster, if that helped? I took a 17mm socket and tapped it on until is seated. With a breaker bar i got it loose, car on stands for leverage. I let it sit with the pb blaster overnight. I used a regular socket not a 12 pt. Not an allen head, the drain is the nut hex below the allen dont mess with the allen head. http://www.hwww.fiatspider.com/f15/view ... ug#p265413

Thanks, sounds like it is definitely a 17mm. Guess I'll just have to try some different things. Thinking that the hex head might be very slightly damaged, can't see it very well.
