My first post, I recently purchased a mint condition 76 spider, having had both an 850, my Fathers and a 124 mine years ago, high school and college. There are a few modifications I want to undertake, but first am going to install stereo. I have read about custom boxes made by a member on here that can mount above the map pocket, if anyone has used them, would they handle a 7.25 midbass?
My plans are to install Stevens Audio HLCDs and a solid 6 inch, or preferably 7.25 midbass (Stevens Audio) above the map pockets, using one of my Denon head units I have held on to over the years, a DCT A100 with an AUX input and digital and RCA outs, a Helix DSP, Zuki Eleets amp to drive the midbasses and sub, and a vintage class A soundstream reference amp to drive the horns, still toying over the sub as I have an old school Oz Audio (superman logo) ten inch, a KEF KAR 10 inch, and an looking at the new Stevens Audio 10 inch as well.
My plans are to remove the back seat and build a custom box that holds the single 10 inch sub and separate boxes to hold 2 KEF KAR 160M mid ranges, as rear fill. Going to do the door panels and floor with sound deadening, havent made the decison on which yet.
My biggest issue is going to be whether I can get the correct midbass above the map pocket and what type enclosure. Thankfully not going to be to concerned with theft of system as this is not a daily driver, although will install a Viper system just in case.

Factor in installing a new 95 amp alternator.

I put 6 inches speaker in the front and there was some cutting. Remember that the back of your speaker will be out of the inside since you have a hole in the liner. So lot of dust and also some water... To solve that problem, I glue some speaker baffle from the inside so now no more hole on the side

I have purchased a 83 recently that had an aftermarket sound system and have been having issues with the alternator charging the battery. Is a 95amp necessary with a newer sound system? For some reason didn't piece together that it might be the problem.

I have a digital cluster and it indicating between 12.2 and 13.2 with the original one. Now with the 95 Amps it's 14.2

Re: upgrade audio in my new spider
A properly operating alternator should to putting out between 13.75-14.25 volts DC and less than 1 volt of AC. Less than 13.75 volts often indicates a faulty electrical system. The engine RPM should be above 1200 when making this test. The issue could be as simple as a poor connection or a a faulty component. Later model Spiders have a 65 amp alternator with an internal voltage regulator/brush assembly. Pretty common for this assembly to require replacement as the brushes are a wear item requiring periodic inspection. The original alternator is more than adequate for the car unless high current loads have been added like additional lighting and exteme audio systems.I have a digital cluster and it indicating between 12.2 and 13.2 with the original one. Now with the 95 Amps it's 14.2
