Beware of Fiat Facebook

Post by spidernut »

There are some advantages to the Fiat Spider Facebook page, but there are some really big disadvantages. I recommend taking any advice on repairs with a grain of salt. I've seen some repair suggestions that are downright dangerous. People mean well, but there has been some really scary advice on there.

+1, It serves a different purpose than here. I have seen some laughable advice as well.

I tend to look at the Fiat groups on FB as social rather than really informative. Look, I waxed my car, isn't it shinny?

Hope everyone knows if you need advice, it's here or Mira.

John DeMar - so true
Spider2081 - also so true
RRoller123 - also very true. I think a lot of people just respond without reading prior responses. I think they mean well, but some of the repair advice offered is so absolutely crazy.

I keep going back and forth about the Facebook forum thinking about the many times the good advice provided by several other knowledgeable people has helped me, and how I have in turn helped others...especially the newbies.

I found my 1983 on a FIAT 124 page, Good car and there was good input about the car from some reputable members. Now I have a good car, I have much to learn and confidence to build before I make mistakes that send me into a world of one thing leads to another. I want to do the job right and this forum is great, as I learn to use it. In the middle of a job and a question comes up before going any further a search on the topic can get you out of trouble, You can't do that on FB. And thanks to Roller123

Besides some misguided advice (which, to be fair, can happen anywhere), what is a bummer about FB is that when there is good information it is likely to be impossible to retrieve in the future for reference. I enjoy Facebook as low-brow fun & a way to keep up with & tease a bit my friends.

Oh yeah, and I have bought a few things from folks on the Fiat groups, including a wonderful & friendly deal on an 81 Spider2K that was sort of a parts car (not a parts car...but I got the parts & a friend got the body)
