Honeycomb grill help

Post by Akgriffith »

Has anybody used the old style honeycomb front grill on a later car? I scored a honeycomb grill and it seems to be bigger than my original. I've got a 1977 spider, when I measure the original and the honeycomb I find that the original is a bit smaller, but it's close. When I try to install to honeycomb it seems to be way to big. All the mounting brackets will line up, but the thing is too long side to side. Height of the grill is not an issue. Anybody ever come across this? I'd hate to start cutting this nice orginal honeycomb grill if I don't have to. The honeycomb one is hitting both sides of the angled support that is between the grill and headlight...does that make since??

I've installed them in both of my Spider 2000's. They just need to be trimmed a bit on both sides to fit.

The grill trim is different on the newer cars. The early models did not have the hood trim. The end trims are enough different to interfere in the fit. I fit my 80 with a 70 grill and ended up using the 70 grill trim to make it work.
