79-85 Electronic Igntition on 74-78?

Could an electron ignition setup from 79-85 (distributor, ignition control module, and vacuum advance) work on 74-78 1800cc carbed spider?

Absolutely!! I'm running the later electronic ignition setup on my 77. The one caveat is whether you can use the vacuum advance capsule or not and that will depend on whether you have the correct vacuum source for it. Lot's of debate about which is the correct source too, ported or manifold vacuum but you can run without the vacuum advance attached as well, which is currently what I'm doing.

It will certainly work, but you might also consider something like a Petronics system.

BTW, if you want an original set up, I have one I bought years ago and still sitting in the box it was shipped in.

Hello, I have a 78 that the PO installed an 79 distributor and now I'm having trouble with it at the coil. I saw on another post and it mentioned two other wires that are attached to the ignition coil since my car doesn't have those wires would it still affect the ignition coils performance?

Ignition control module has 4 terminals. 2 terminals to distributor, other 2 terminals go to the + & - sides of the coil
