Door Seal alternatives?
Door Seal alternatives?
After my paint job it was obvious the door seals needed to be replaced. Anyone have any alternatives that I might be able to buy locally instead of the oem Fiat part?

mass confusion sets in rather quickly at my desk. so, maybe i am distracted - so i ask:
why would you want something than the original design? believe the major suppliers all carry NEW rubber replacement seals that work great on an unmodified body design.

I may need rubber to drive the car before getting some in on order, and maybe someone makes something better/cheaper. From your response I take it that's a no, but if I didn't ask I wouldn't have known.mbouse wrote:mass confusion sets in rather quickly at my desk. so, maybe i am distracted - so i ask:

It'll probably cost you more to buy a roll of generic weatherstrip. I'm amazed at how expensive that stuff can be. You may want to try an auto interior shop that works on older cars. They may have a vendor they deal with for this.

You didn't.... not at all. Maybe I sound mean in posts and I don't even know it. lol I was implying that I am new to Fiats, and with other car brands I have delt with, there is sometimes an aftermarket or locally available alternative that is sometimes tried, tested and better/cheaper. If that was the truth with the Fiat door gasket, I am sure you would have suggested that alternative, but you suggested stock stuff.mbouse wrote:sorry if i offended you. i didn't mean to.
Maybe its because I am at work and everything is so sharp and poignant in the office.

Do you have acces to McMastercarr at work? If not you can order it from home, they have what you are looking for. I bought some awhile back for the race car Item # 1120A333 edge-grip rubber seal, $1.73per/ft.

Ted,
Thanks! I order from mcmaster what seems like daily. I will try this out and take some pictures.

Looks like if I had the measurement I could do it for the trunk tooengineerted wrote:Do you have acces to McMastercarr at work? If not you can order it from home, they have what you are looking for. I bought some awhile back for the race car Item # 1120A333 edge-grip rubber seal, $1.73per/ft.

I have the right replacement in stock, not much more expensive than the Mcmaster replacement, also the trunk weatherstrip is in stock
Re: Door Seal alternatives?
A GM mechanic friend brought some weatherstrip to me, and it was a good replacment for the door weatherstrip. So alternatives are out there...
Re: Door Seal alternatives?
The mcmaster part worked great, only on one tight curve did it show a 'slight' kink.

Sometimes it takes a while for the weatherstripping to "bed in" and retain memory. The first few months you may need to close your door a little harder to get it to shut properly.
