Hello, would anybody care to look at the image below and tell me if I am just blind and not seeing the timing marks or is that protrusion supposed to be used in some way? Thanks in advance!

My timing mark on my 83 is on the passenger side.
You can also remove #1 spark plug and put a screwdriver in the hole. Put the screwdriver to the highest point and you are at TDC.

Yes, now you need a timing light. 0-5-10 from the top.
Also, unplug the vacuum hose from the distributor and plug it.

It was not in the book but if I remember properly, it was to be shure that the vacuum did not put some advance on your timing.
