German site? Bernie, got a link?

I'd love to find my old French Blue 71 Coupe, and I still have the VIN, thanks to an old insurance bill (VIN now transferred to a readily available txt file on my phone!). Problem is, the VINs from the 70's are not the standard VINs we use now, so things like Carfax and other search engines don't work.

Last I heard, the 71 had gone to Nevada with the sons of the salesman who took it in trade on a new 84 Rabbit....which, had I waited about 2 months, would have been a 1st gen GTI instead of a 5 spd "L" 4 door.....

Good luck, Evan!

Hi at all,
this is the result of a query for "USA" + "Nevada": 45 cars!
http://www.fiatspider.de/der-spider/reg ... =&=Filtern

If you tell us the VIN or Pre-VIN (like 124CS(1)xxxxxxx) then i can look up in my offline collection.
Good luck to you!

Ciao,
Ralf

arrgh,
i should read he complete thread!
1) the thread owner is looking for a 83 pininfarina without VIN
2) the registry just only contains 124 Spider cars
3) 124 coupe cars are just collected offline for any interested persons

So the registry contains cars identified by VIN / chassisno. or by license plate ID.
Can u tell us the plate ID from the pics?

I also can look for a 83 US Pininfarina with that significant front in my Picture libraries.

Bye,
Ralf

Hi Evan,
just looked for an US Pininfarina Spider in red with that specific front. But in my result list of 403 front pictures there's no red one like this. Sorry, can't help!

Ralf: Thanks; tried the site and....yeah, looks like spiders only.

Edit the second.....sheesh.....

Old coupe VIN/pre-VIN was 124BC10150457; color was Med/Fr Blue (426).

Sorry....apparently the original VIN plate was hard to read, so I had registered it with "SC" with the insurance company, not the correct "BC".

I know why you miss it. Have an 84 the same color with 38K miles and it's set up just about right. Wilwood brakes, aluminum radiator, rear sway bar, etc. All I need is those springs I want. Well an R&T rack from a Bi Turbo would be nice. It seems that with a little reversible tweaking these cars can be made to drive as good as they look.
I drove and X for years and had to sell it to get the Spyder. Having spent years on X web this place sure is quiet.
Anyhow.....hope you find your car.
I know where my two old favorites are. Totaled. Both were totaled by new owners 3 months later.

Unfortunately because of issues with PII (Personally Identifiable Information) and Privacy unless its revealed due to a Police Investigation most regular folks can't get access to who possesses what VIN and such as easily any more unless the current owner volunteers to make it public.

I just tried to track down a previous owner of a vehicle having both the VIN and previous registration and was told unless requested by an officer of the court as part of an ongoing investigation they could not reveal that information since it was a New Hampshire registration number and NH now views that as a violation of their Privacy Laws.

I am not about to lay out $600 to have an officer of the court research this for me.

You can probably get the vin indirectly by doing a title search of cars you've owned (in the state where you titled it). Any decent PI should be able to do that and then a vin search to find the current owner. Might cost you a hundred bucks or so, but it's worth it

Well, after years of searching, I think I found my car and it's not a happy ending. I found this:
VIN: ZFRAS00B4D5502040. Found in Rockville MD. Crushed in 01/2017. Reported by John Erskine, FIAT Rescue League.
I guess it met its demise in 2017. Sad. I really regret selling it, I had restored it and she was gorgeous. Hind sight can be cruel.

Shucks, Evan, that's definitely a bummer. Two of my "18 and counting" history are in my garage, but I've lost track of the others over the years.

Anyway, they become almost like a member of the family, and hard to let loose.
