not quite, all the polished parts for the x are in my den. and the croft manifold i got yesterday is on my desk. yeah i know, i gotta get these on the road again. while i can still drive.
Re: Installing a Console Cap
I just finished installing a black cap. Only because i missed the console i wanted on e bay for $150. Ouch! Now then looks great! Saved money and very easy to install. No touch up paint required!!!!
Re: Installing a Console Cap
hey, i like that look. i wondered what a black console would look like with beige seats and beige door panels. I also like your replacement trim on the door panel.
Re: Installing a Console Cap
what I don't like about the caps is the gaps around the e brake where the old console is visable
Re: Installing a Console Cap
I was wondering if you meant to not cut out for the switches or you taking it back out to do so .. And I was in question with my self about regluing the gear shift numbers back on the new cap or not and see you have left them off and wanted your opinion of what you think about them. papablanchardkeith wrote:I just finished installing a black cap. Re: Installing a Console Cap
i left the gear shift pattern off my cap installation... and the fan switch indicator. i didn't think that fragile indicator had enough clearance for the cap, and did not want to destroy it attempting to fit it in.
the shift pattern plaque is rather foolish, IMO. if you need that plaque on day #2 of ownership, you are in real trouble...

Upon getting my car in 81 there was only the fan switch on the center console. 75 spider. guess they thought people then didn't need the indicators...........oh it used to be on the top of the ball on the shift.

Reminds me of the time I took my 15 year old daughter out to let her drive the Spider. At one point we were headed off the road and she's got her head pointed down, looking at the shift pattern for the next gear! I guess I didn't mention: memorize the shift pattern.

some things just aren't as intuative as we think, are they? i don't recall ever seeing a shift pattern when i was growing up and learning how to drive.
the three on the tree pattern was always the same as three on the floor..... yet, wowzers do i get strange looks from the kids when i mention that the shifter is on the steering column when we go to car shows together.

My Corvette had a 4 speed and it was some different form the spider and I suppose that if I still had It I might get mixed up when switching vehicles and want to take a peek at the little numbers thing . But if you are not ove 60 yet you might not quite get it what I am getting at. Not senile,,yet,,, but ,,aaaaaaaaa,,,lets see what was I talking about.. LOL papa

On my Honeymoon, we went to Mexico and decided to drive around and see some other sites so we rented a VW bug convertible. It didn't take me long to realize that Reverse was where 1st gear is on a FIAT! It kinda would have been nice to have a shift pattern somewhere, or at least an owner manual.
