The wood door panel forum was quite long. So here are some wood visors I made. I think they look great! Let me know what you think.

Wood Visors
Re: Wood Visors
i think i would try some different fasteners to eliminate the visible nut and extra threads.
they make a two piece "rivet"
other than that, i think they look real nice, especially since they match the other wood trim.

Re: Wood Visors
I like em. Mike's right, maybe a different kind of fastener, cap nut on the bolts maybe?
And what did you use to slide onto the post on the top latch side?

The ideal fastener for this type of application (in my opinion anyway) would be a binding screw or barrel type. You can find a whole assortment of these styles at http://www.mcmaster.com on the bar at the left type in "Barrel nuts" and you will get a listing of all of the types they carry on the right. You can get them in many different styles and some will give you a fastener with no visible holes/indentations. Just my 2 cents.
Re: Wood Visors
that's exactly what i had in mind as well. just did not know what to call them.
Re: Wood Visors
I did redo all the wood dash and doors. Wood veneer glued to the old plates and glove door. I do need the caps for the bolt edges. There is no question. Have'nt had time to get to ace and pic tow up. The top has a screw with decorative washer. Small rubber gasket around sheet metal peice. I will try to send some pics here soon.
Thanks

Re: Wood Visors
Absolutely beautiful! I was thinking of doing the same for both the dash and visors with mine, but I have to get her running first. Did you just make a template, and cut it out with a router? I was thinking of buying router, or laminate trimmer for that purpose, and just make a template from the original dash pieces. Some high quality birch plywood as used in cabinet making with a pretty burl maple or quilted mahogany veneer would be more durable than solid wood. About twenty years ago I apprenticed with a luthier who built classical strings, but haven't done much wood working since. Anyways, beautiful job, and thanks for helping me visualize what I'd like to do.

Are the visors veneer on substrate or solid wood? It looks like solid, and you don't have to worry about the wood movement in this application. Cool!
The dash should always be veneer I think.
Re: Wood Visors
The visors are 3/8" pine from home depot. The dash is mostly veneer over the original w/ spray adhesive. The door panest are veneer over plywood. Used a jigsaw and sand paper. Copied the original pattern. I am going to get the nuts that cover the kids cycle bolts. don't know what they are called. It all turned out better than I expected. Now if I could get my wiring working I would be really happy.
