Arm Rest Chrome

Post by GOPAPA »

If I am top posting to much ,,then just let me know as I am doing so to share what I have learned and then when you all reply to me I learn some more .. Excuses excuses ,,I know LOL

Durring my Console redo I mentioned that next I was going to replace my arm rest chrome as it was just plain worn out an ugly.. I ask what glue I should use to stick it in place and I guess the question got lost in the console talk so I decided to proceed anyway.
The reason I ask what glue to use is because on my passenger door arm rest the chrome was starting to come out and I could see where it had the stick on glue tape that it came with . You know the kind where you pull the protector wax paper type stuff off and stick the chrome piece in place.. Like weather stripping for a house door jam.
Anyway , the chrome pieces I got have no glue on them and so now you know why I was asking what glue to use..
I started with the drivers door and soon noticed that it had no glue and it was just like the new ones I bought.

Then is when I discovered that all you have to do is take a tool and press them into place after cutting them to lenghth.
But ,,when i got to the passenger door and discovered another problem ,,some time or another some one has tried to mend this arm rest by stapling the vynol into the track where the chrome goes ,,and they did a terrible job ,,so when I tried to use the tool to set the chrome into its groove ,,it wouldn't stay..

So this is what happened and I took my little applicator and shot silicone into the groove and then pressed the chrome into the best I could and clamped it and taped it and shut the door and put kickers across from door to door at as many places as I could .. Tomorrow we will see what the patch work job will look like .

My passenger door arm rest is a make do until I find another arm rest in good condition and change it out ,,sorry for the long story but sharing it with the wife is just not the same as sharing it with all you spider people .. LOL papa

Even Denise has trouble getting her spouse to fully understand what it is like to be a Fiat Freak. So, it is proven that it is not a genetic or gender thing... your wife is just "the spouse".

Gedda correct arm rest and start over. They hold vinyl paint well, so getting a faded one is alright.

I have a lonly passenger side black one that i'd like to see go to a good home...
