floor pans

pulled out the interior today and started chipping away at the rust. Both sides of front and rear floor pans have some degree of rust so I figure replace them all. Any advice on A) doing the job and B) where to get the pans. So far I have only found two places that have them, AR and C2 fabrication.

Hi,

I had patches of rust through in the same area. I cut out the weak spots, made patches and had the local weld shop put them in. One of worst spots was under the accelerator where the ground wire from the tranny meets the chassis. I painted up both sides. No rust through after 8 years.

That would be easier did you patch from the top or from underneath?

I cut and laid the patches on top. The welder laid a nice smooth fillet on the top and bottom. I spray undercoated both sides. You can hardly see a seam. I finished off the top of the floor with foil backed rubber sound deadening which had great self stick for forming around the curves and seat supports. http://www.soundproofcow.com/product/ro ... -material/

Looks like a real neat job. I remember doing similar with my MGB for the soundproofing. I used some sort of self adhesive roofing material as the soundproof stuff was crazy expensive and it worked well

Did one order of the insulation cover the whole interior? Also did you feel the jute was necessary? I would suspect that carpet directly on the sound deadener would be sufficient.

It was a complete tear down so I did both. The carpeting was a quality weave but it did not have backing. I am glad I did it but it wasn't necessary. Both helped more reducing engine heat rather than noise.

May I ask: how many packs of the sounddeading material did you require?

Sorry for the delay but I had to pull this invoice up from 2010.

I used 3 sheets 24 x 48 x.078 thick. I used every bit of it. I may have cheated on the back seat floor wells. It was actually fun to install. You can fit it with the anti-stick backing in place first. There is not much forgiveness if you missed dimension and tried to pull it up after removing the anti-stick backing.
