Hand Brake lever restoration

Post by Sambo42 »

Has anyone tried to do this? I have my original plus a later series (I assume - there is a little blank plate for the handbrake light switch but it's in a different spot). Both have minor rust blemishes and it's tossup as to which is better and which is worse. I'm wanting to do this properly - has anyone disassembled the handbrake lever? It looks like it's going to take some doing - most of the fittings are pressed in and I'm not sure yet how to extract the spring with the pushrod for the ratchet mechanism....

Pics to follow illustrating how good/bad each one is. Voting to start shortly afterwards (as to which one to keep)....

Have you tried this stuff for minor surface rust? "Never Dull", it is frankly amazing. Really works well, may not have to disassemble the whole thing.
