Homely? I see what you mean, but the way I see it is that this car is stuggling to get past the post-war, old-country Italian culture into the modern age. It's both traditional in form and modernistic in style. You can almost feel the "awkward teenage years" in the design as the FIAT style emerges into what we're used to in the 60's and 70's. I love it.
