Realizing you already ordered a DFEV, but here's the skinny on the two carb series -

The "D" series (DMSA, DHSA, DFEV) are all the same basic carburetor. They share the same basic body with ancillary stuff on them. They are smaller than the "A" series in every way.

The "A" series (ADFA, ADHA, ADL) consist of a throttle body and a carburetor body. The throttle body has the butterflys and the various mechanisms to move them, the carburetor body has the mixture control stuff. They are large and range in barrel sizes from tiny (ADHA) to huge (38ADL).

There is no particular advantage one over the other. The A series will mate best into FIATs originally fitted with A series carburetors simply because all of the stuff lines up and plugs into the same places. Same as the D series. So IMHO if you had one series stick with it unless you cannot for some reason. By the way the 36ADL stands out as the most all around bad ass single carburetor I ever put on a Spider.

The A series are more expensive because they are more complex. They are also fairly rare new in the USA for some reason; I think FIAT pretty much exclusively used these whereas everyone seemed to use a variant of the D series carburetor. Even Toyota used the DMSA on its small trucks - so a billion or so ran the world.

Thank you for the information. I have now received a carburetor but it is a DFAV instead of the DFEV. What is the difference and should I send it back?

Did you find out if there is a difference in the DFAV and DFEV carbs??? I also ordered a DFEV but received a
DFAV from Webercarbsdirect today. Want to install it this weekend but concerned if the carbs are the same.

I think that they took the dfav and put an electric choke on it.
