Now that is what I call inspiring. I'm about to undertake a similar resto of a 1980. Looking at your work is really helpful to my plans. Thank you for sharing!

Wow Drummond.... I am beyond impressed with the quality of your work and your dedication!
I am in the middle of replacing the rotted passenger side frame rail on my 1971. Pulled the engine, dropped the suspension, cleaned it up, and got the rusty old one off (no way am I doing it your style and trying to save it) and am down to the fender metal. It is quite intact but there is considerable thinning from rust in some areas so I will need to reinforce it with some new 16 gauge before I weld on the new frame rail fab. Just wondering how you pre-treat hidden areas for corrosion protection before you weld. POR15 all over, or just away from weld zones? Have you used weld-through primer? Are you using MIG or flux core? What amps and wire size and speed do you use? Wondering how you like the Eastwood paint also, as I will need to paint the engine bay afterwards, and debating whether to get spraying equipment or do it ghetto style with a rattle can.
I am having my 1608 rebuilt with NOS Euro OEM 9.8 pistons and hotter cams later this winter, and will install a new diff in the axle, replace suspension componects front and rear. I will open up the trans and replace seals at the minimum, more if necessary. New clutch too. No way am I bringing it to your lofty level of perfection though. I am not worthy...

Hi Scoopman
thank you for your kind compliments!
Welding info is on page 2. Wire gauge is 30-35 mig. I don't pre treat the area, I treat it afterwards with internal frame coating from Eastwood
on the areas I cannot get to. I use por 15 and then an etch primer, Seam sealer, primer final coat then clear coat on the metal I can.
You can use a rattle can and still get a fair job done. better with a proper spray gun.
Eastwood paint seems pretty good will not know how well it lasts until a few years have passed. I used a two stage paint, details are in this post page 6 I think
good luck on your project, I am sure your standard is pretty high!
