1438 cam gear bolt torque specs
Hello, I am getting near the end of my rebuild but came across a bit on a conundrum. The torque specs I have found online for the cam gear bolts were 87 ft.lbs. for the 1608 and 35 ft.lbs. for the 1438. is this correct? I have a 1608 head with 1438 cam towers, any help would be appreciated.

Re: 1438 cam gear bolt torque specs
My official Fiat shop manual shows the 1438 in a lot of detail in the Appendix regarding the 124 Special T model. It very explicitly shows the tightening spec to be 87 ft-lbs. I have seen discussion about versions having polymer sprockets, and maybe they have lower torque specs, but I have found no reference to that in the official manual that covers all U.S.A. spec 124 cars from 1970 to 1974. You may want to double check the thread size - the manual shows that torque spec goes with an M10 X 1.25 thread.
I also looked through Brad Artigue's book and found no mention of anything special about the 1438 cams.
Hope this helps.

Re: 1438 cam gear bolt torque specs
My 1970 Official Fiat 124 Sport book covering the Spider for the 1438 shows cam gear screws M 10 x 1.25 tightening torque of 35.4 ft lbs. Perhaps the 1608 uses larger bolts - do not know.
Again do not know what to do with mixing of parts.
