New fuel tank

Just installed a new fuel tank in a '71 Spider. Not turning over yet. Any tips??? Does the system need to be repressurized manually somehow?

I have one gallon in the tank. Need more to get her going?

Ok, quick update. The rubber fuel line from the tank has a leak. So that's going to get replaced before going further.

The more fuel in the tank the easier time the pump has.

I'd start by replacing every rubber component in the fuel system (especially the tank filler hose) and then go with a couple gallons. If electric, you can run it it manually for a minute or so to prime things up, otherwise just squirt some fuel in the carb throat to kick it off.

Just curious, how much did you put in the carb? I am about to experience this my self (entire new fuel system, from gas cap - lines - tank - etc - to new carb.

Not much at all. I would say I put in about a "splash". Maybe about 1/4 cup.

Did you pour the fuel into the top of the carb through the butterfly valves or is there a way to fill the bowl without removing any screws? I've seen folks fill the carb bowl on other carbs, but can't seem to find a filler tube on our carbs. I have a 1972 with 1 2brl carb. I'm no mechanic, so please excuse my caveman speech.

I'm planning on filling my carb through the fuel hose that the fuel filter is attached to. I also replaced my mechanical fuel pump and I'm not sure if I installed it properly. I watched a YouTube video on the installation but I'm not sure I had the aux shaft in the right position. I installed the new pump and had My GF crank the engine while I held my hand near the outlet on the pump to see if I could feel any air (lines are empty). I didn't feel much air at all. Should I feel short bursts of air?

I have also replaced all rubber hoses, removed tank, and blown out the lines with compressed air. Just wanted to make sure I could feel air being pumped by the fuel pump before filling it with fuel.

DuganNukem, your expertise level here is on par with mine so take the information from me here at face value. What I did was remove the air filter and pour a splash of fuel directly into the carb. But when it comes to the replacement of the fuel pump you should to start a new thread on that. Let the pro advice on that.
