Engine serial number

Post by Hootch »

Hi, This question is for any serial number experts. I have a '78 1800. However, after looking at the serial number stamped into the engine block, I think I have an engine out of a '73. I think it's a 1592, if I remember correctly. Does that sound right? And does anyone know what the horsepower is on that particular motor?

Thanks in advance!

That 132 AC 040 3 does show to be a 1592. Not sure of the exact power figure. I would think with the best of the stock manifolds and carb that it would be roughly 80hp at the flywheel. Maybe 85hp on the high end and 70hp on the low side depending on tune and wear.

Thanks for the info, Andy!

It has very little power in the lower gears, but there's a little blow-by that I'll need to resolve. I'm hoping that will help a bit.
