Tie rods, do you change the ball joint? If so it's $60 for parts. If you change your shock it will cost at least $400 for Koni and $200 for springs. You will need alignement. So another $100. And we don't talk about the bushings.

Input shaft bearing is $47. Do you change the clutch if it's more then 50% of wear?$150 Facing the flywheel?$100

Leaks, from hose collar or cam tower? I hope not the oil pan gasket. If you remove the cam tower to change the base gasket, you will need to recheck the valve clearance.

Rear diff leaks usually from the front seal. Not expensive but long job and the guy have to know what is doing... or you will end with a noisy diff.

Driveshaft support, do you change the bearing? If so, you will have to remove one universal joint. Do you change both? What about the donut?.

Don't forget the 30% exchange and how many hours for those jobs???

Ha ha ha,! Orford makes it sound super intimidating for a first time buyer but truth of the matter is you wont be doing all that in one sitting at the mechanic's. Like i stated in my email, get the car looked at by the expert i referred to you just to make sure you understand what needs to be done. This will also give you a chance to bail before you throw any new parts at it.
At that point you can set yourself objectives and a time period in order of urgency such as the approach spiderdan undertook over the years.
No need for splurging for $200 Konis at this point unless your objectives are racing and autocross and flinging it around turns.. Sounds to me like your intent is to maintain a Sunday car.

Agree Arik, no racing for me. Just some weekend strolls to the park or around the city. Will have it checked out, don;t think its
that bad. Need some suspension (mainly bushings) upgrades to get it safe and then will worry about the rest. Arik,
Thanks for the vote of confidence.

No no no no no!
Arik is not a mechanic! Arik referred you to mechanics because Arik is no mechanic!
I'll tell you what Vince, Orford is actually juicing up the dialogue because he misses working on Fiats-
I'll provide the transportation i'll bring him here and provide him a place to sleep so that i can watch him work on your Fiat. And i'll be your agent and i'll make sure he does not go overboard by building you a rallye car. We're going to keep this simple

I got an idea. Why don't you guys team up and both come and work on the car. We could be one big happy 'work on Vince's fiat' family. I'll supply the pizza and beer.

I would recommend a few Fiat mechanic "supervisors" from Ottawa to ensure quality assurance.

When Norm from "Cheers" was asked what is the best beer in the world, he replied "free beer of course"
