Retrofit air on 85.5 spider

Post by tcheathcote »

I am in process of fitting air con. I live in Spain so at the moment the temp is in the 40s that's over 100f so I am hoping to make the car more driver friendly. I appreciate it will only help with the roof up so that's not the problem. The company I have sourced for the parts are in Florida and I wonder if any of you guys have fitted. The unit is 12000btu so my question other than the obvious are.will it affect performance and consumption. The car is the 85.5 pininfarina and drives a dream. :D

Hello:
I retrofitted an air conditioner system in my 1979 automatic several years ago. The source was a Texas company who supplied the kits to Fiat dealers in the 1970's but the company is no longer in business; the updated kit is a R-134a system and works well for my car. Performance suffers some when turned on but since an automatic not a problem since the cooler air is much better; especially at lower speeds. If you would like some more information on what I have, send me an email at whhopson@southernco.com.

Can you give details of the A/C unit you bought, and from where?

Thanks
