Guys, I'm going to give a try to laser-cut the gasket which sits between the top and main body of my Chinese 34 ADF. There seems to be some variety of material stock available. Can anyone make a suggestions? What to look for? Other hints?
I'd also take some suggestions for sources to just buy the gasket. Unless I buy a whole rebuild kit (which I don't need), the only ones I have found have an extra hole for a fuel bowl vent which I don't have.
If I get this working, I'm happy to share my CAD drawings, or may even be able to cut gaskets as needed for others.
Thanks

Re: Gasket material for carb - material suggestions
Additionally, after some googling, I've found that some old-timers make gaskets from cereal box cardboard, and "fancy" folks make them from manila folders. Then they put a thin coat of oil on it, and voila, a gasket. Thoughts?

I have used both the cereal box and vanilla envelopes also if you want to reuse the gaskets put lip balm on one side and then they won't stick

Hmm, a laser-cut cereal box gasket with lip balm on one side. It might be a first.
I've used a cereal box gasket and it worked for the vapor seporator.
I also made an imprint in the wax of a large candle, and then poured hi-temp gasket "goo" in the mold and let it harden. It seemed like a good idea but it was too thick and didn't seal well.
Good luck. And like they always say, "if it's worth engineering, it's worth over-engineering." Or something like that...

Re: Gasket material for carb - material suggestions
I'm waiting for jets to arrive so I have not installed this yet, but here are pics of my homemade gasket. It is made from Fel-Pro 3157 material https://www.amazon.com/Fel-Pro-3157-Gas ... B000CNISM2, which I THINK is suitable, but I'll take comments on that.
I first made a paper one and did a test fit on my old carburetor and it's nearly perfect. Let's hope the real one fits on the Chinese 34 ADF as well and keep things sealed.
Here's a comparison of the paper gasket (which may very well be usable) from my old carb with the new laser cut version. Pretty darn close!
And the test fit of the paper gasket on the Frankenstein 32 ADF-ish carb:
And the broken one I'm replacing:
Thanks to everyone for their comments!
