My parts book doesn't show a number for the 1608 distributor. Do you think it's stamped on the dist somewhere? I can look at the ones I have.

I have been doing some research before I rebuild my 1800 motor. I am going to the 9.8-1 pistons when I rebuild. This will require I change the advance curve in my distributor. It currently has 8-1 compression [132A1040 motor]. I have found all the distributor curves avaliable in all my old repair manuals. The dis. from the 1608 should work [20 degrees @ crankshaft]. What I can't find is a part number for the 1608cc engine's distributor so I can find one somewhere. The dis. in the 1800 I have is full centrifugal and has 34 degrees [crankshaft] total advance. That will be too much advance for the 9.8-1 c.r.. I will convert it to breakerless. I can't afford to go to some of the more modern aftermarket solutions [distrubutorless etc.] at this time. I also need to know if there is any reason this will not fit into my 1800. ...J.D. :?

A distributor from a 1608 should fit fine in an 1800 engine. I'm running a dist from a 2L on my 1608. I may have one from one of my cars. Email me at spyderlady71@yahoo.com if interested.

Just by chance I have a 1600 distributor on the desk in my homeoffice.... it has a stamped number on it that reads "S144B" - in a circle. Afaik looking at this number your vendor (i.e. Denise...) will be able to identify the distributors he/she got.
ciao,
Stefan
