exhaust manifold bolt oil inside bolt chamber

Post by DRUMMOND »

Anyone know why there would be oil inside this bolt?
the hole behind this bolt goes in about four inches??. the bolt next to it, hole is only about half inch?
no other bolts have oil inside all dry just this one.

Thank you for opinions :D

I found out when I was rebuilding my engine that a couple of the bolts on both sides, intake and exhaust, communicate into the oil galleries. I had filled the pan with oil and spun the pump with a drill extension to pre-lube engine without the intake or exhaust manifolds on and quickly had oil pouring out onto the floor! I think it was one on the exhaust (maybe second one in form the front?) and I think two on the intake side. You need sealant of some sort on the threads of those studs.

Yep, that's the story. I just put sealant on all of them.
