tool to get back nuts off of idf carbs ?

Post by grasshopper »

Hi all. Wondering if there is a special tool or a trick to getting the back 13 mm nuts off of a twin idf set up ? I have a waffle manifold and I just cant get at the back 13mm nuts. Ive tried various 13mm sockets and wrenches but I cant get at them. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Try a 14mm socket with an extension, gently! Replace with reduced outside diameter nuts (mine are 11mm) available from many vendors for future ease.

Or use a 13mm w/ 1/4 inch drive. Grind the socket to half the depth. To reinstall them, use a Phillips screw driver as a pilot for the nut and washer and spin with your finger till started, then use the socket. A magnet will come in handy.

Or buy a set (or just a 13mm socket) of these claw wrenches. Makes the carb job easy and they are useful sockets on a number of other common FIAT wrenching challenges.

I tried all those methods and they didn't work the only thing that worked was a long skinny wrench which I heated then bent it almost 90 degrees right angle using the closed side for the nut. Now the handle will be pointing almost straight up and you got to use another pair of pliers or vice grip to actually loosen it. You need a wrench with little meat. I can send you a picture if you want
