So, Im waiting on parts for the car to come in, and I keep staring at the engine bay at all the little wires going here and there and wonder what they're for and what they do. I look at some of the things under the hood that are looking old and rusty and I started to think about how I could improve the looks.
Is there a really nice color diagram of the 1608 under hood with labels to what each item is and what it does?
I still don't understand this fast idle switch and what it does...
Someone out there has to have something like that, but I cant seem to find it.
I think a lot of these old wires and crud can be cleaned up and re-routed, but I'd like to know what it is before I do it and there so much there I think I'll flip out trying to trace each wire. Some of this stuff under here may be useless these days with certain upgrades...
Anyone with said pics feel free to offer them up.

Re: Cleaning up under the hood
I would also get the official Fiat service manual - and many are multiple years. The one I have goes from I believe 1970 to 1974. Some of the generic manuals can help a little bit but I have seen different specs on suspension torque specifications so I usually stay with the official manuals.
I found mine on Ebay and they are pretty invaluable.
I have 3 official Fiat shop manuals. They have blue covers. I have a 124 Special Shop Manual. 124 Sport shop manual and 124 shop manual. The 124 Special has a lot of info on the cars - but you have to go to the appendix to find how to change timing belt and how to adjust the valves. The 124 Sport manual is much smaller and seems to be a supplement to the 124 Special - and has more on the spider.

Re: Cleaning up under the hood
This may not be much help but I have a 71 124 spider and facing the same issues. My parts are in and am about to start the clean up and clean out of no longer wanted wires, hoses and etc. Maybe we should stay in touch and share info.

Sounds good to me. I'll be posting up pics when I start cleaning up old wires.
