My first fun drive!

Post by TulsaSpider »

I was recruited by a local roadster society about a month ago. They said they had a run coming up so I balanced my checkbook decided I didn't have enough funds to do it but decided to do it anyway! I even took my gal, although the heat was a bit much for her.. There were 8 Solctices 1 Sky 1 Honda and my Spyder! We met at 8AM and headed East towards the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. The first thing I learned is how bad my speedo is off at the first stop! They said they were doing 65 and my speedo said 80! Wow! It was a fantastic day until the heavens opened up at about 4PM. My lil car did ok. No problems, I still don't have it in good time yet so that kinda bugged me.. . This kinda driving (twisty turney up and down) lets me know where to concentrate my next efforts! Overall a great experience! I met great people and put 300 trouble free miles on my car in a day so now I feel I can drive her anywhere!! :D Here's some pics!

Great! Drivin with friends is always a good thing! There is a group of Fiat enthusiasts in your area, and a great bunch. Its MOFLO. You can get the address thru FLU's homesite. FLU is a good national club...

Dave, I have been there but there is little info, dead links, out of date info etc.. and I never recieved any responses. I have found one other Spyder in Tulsa, that's about it!

When you feel like your Spider is up to it, drive on over to Hot Springs (about 3 to 4 hours). Great roads between here and there. Nice driving around here too. Or I could meet you halfway near Petite Jean Mountain for a few hours of twisty roads. It would be the first time folks around here would have ever seen two 124 Spiders. Heck, most of them haven't ever seen one!

Rev 'em high and turn 'em hard :D

Yeah, drivin' witha group is soooo much more fun.

now you have a reason to buy a GPS... they come with speed indicators, so you can tell how fast you are going; cuz 65 verses 80 is quite the difference. I think mine is roughly 10% off above 70mph..speedometer says 80 when the GPS and surrounding traffic says i am at about 72mph

and, Jon is right. Ron Conlon is the guy with the FIAT LANCIA UNLIMITED crew that you will wanna get in touch with.

I did speak via E-mail with Mr Conlon once, but never heard from him again. I should try again I suppose!

Way to go Clark! Driving with a group has got to be the best part of owning a Spider. I'm glad for you that you were able to hook up.
Congratulations on getting your car to the point of being able to do it.

And your car was the only real McCoy of the bunch! Those other cars were designed to emulate the roadsters of the '60s and '70s -- your's is genuine. Congrats on completing the trip troublefree. That always makes me feel good.

Thanks all and yes it felt great, especially since I had no issues. You have a pont there those cars are modeled after our types of cars huh!?! This is the first time I had been in the car for more than an hour at a time max so a great success... The only thing I noticed is that my hands were very fatigued by the tiny circumference steering wheel I think...
Thanks guys, I can't wait to do it again!
