After a lot of work, PASSED.
these cars should be measured on their past regulation.
Now i can re-jet and get back to where it ought to be. Although does run well.

Re: CA SMOG
that's the BIG problem; standards keep getting tighter. Right now the CO limit is half of what the car was designed to run at

Re: CA SMOG
Also a big congratulations. It is not at all easy to pass CA smog.
Question: Isn't the smog based on the requirements of the original year? (So your 79 only has to pass the requirements that were in place in 79?) At least that's how it worked when I had to smog other cars.

Re: CA SMOG
Nope.
From what I have learned; Ca has changed the requirements some time ago.
Now it is compared against cars of similar weight and engine size. NO way it can compete with newer cars. Ca doesn't want any older cars on the road. Best to buy pre '74 if wanting a "classic" in Ca.
The experience smog and carb guys I met are quite angry about this and almost feel a duty to help keep these on the road.
Thanks Pacheco Smog and Steve the Carb guy.
now; on the road; legally

Re: CA SMOG
Can you get a "Historic" or "Antique" plate like we can in MA that lets you bypass that stuff? I seem to see only "Historic" plates on all of Jay Leno's CA cars.

Re: CA SMOG
yeah...CA is a fun one when it comes to smog testing. I heard there are two exempt counties...but that may just be a myth.
75 and older are smog exempt. I also heard there was a bill that was hoping to move the year up to 1980. It had something to do with registering the car as a classic which I assume would cost more.
congrats on passing!

here's the link to what you are talking about;.
I'll give it some time: hold onto my Weber 32/36 and single plane manifold just in case.
