Size of AAR orifice when cold!?

Post by Nikkum »

1985 FI . Can anyone help with info on this? In the fridge the max opening is about 3mm max width moon shape. Should it be larger?

That looks about right, maybe a little larger than the 3 AAVs that I have fiddled around with. IF NECESSARY, You can adjust it by loosening the small screw on the side and moving the flap a little with a small flat bladed screwdriver, then retightening the screw. Just be careful not to bend the flap to one side or the other.

It is probably more important to make sure that it is fully closed when it is warm, than widely open when it is cold. Fully closed allows the FI system to be properly air balanced. No air should be passing through the AAV when the engine has fully warmed up.

Ok that's an Alfa but it looks like the hole is much bigger than mine after freezing. I'll try cleaning it again w carb cleaner. Many thanks

Thought it might be problem w AAR sticking open and affecting AFR when warm cos now when it warm and I set the idle it seems to be "searching" i.e. keeps ranging from rate 800 to 1100 then back again spontaneously. Voltage new O2 sensor reads about .2V . Checked the AAR has closed by squeezing hose and no change to rate.
Any ideas as to direction of investigation or cure? If this is weak mixture one might suspect vac leak but I really cant pinpoint one. Thermo time switch cut outs the cold start injector after few seconds into jar. I'm a bit stumped. Frustrating as very nearly right and drives like dream!

Check the action of the TPS: Throttle Position Sensor. And once FULLY warmed up, the O2 sensor should show an average of about 0.45 VDC. It will be loopy looking with a digital meter, because it jumps around, but should average about .4
