Squeak driving me insane
Re: Squeak driving me insane
ahhh, perfect time to do that bit of inspecting i recommended. as the vehicle is up on the lift, ask the mechanic if you can stand under your car for a few moments and inspect the guibo, the center support bearing and bracket, and the u-joints. Also, and excellent time to top of that rear differential fluid, if he'll let you get away with it.
i'd trade several small dawgs for the opportunity to have my own lift!

as if that thought never crossed my mind. but, alas! that particular project would be agin the law.. and you know we canno break the law for any personal gain
Re: Squeak driving me insane
OK guys, so I've decided on a front end rebuild. Here's my shopping list so far, please let me know if I've forgotten something:
1 pair Gabriel Low Pressure Shocks
1 pair Lower Control Arm Assemblies (Left & Right)
1 pair Upper Control Arm Assemblies (Left & Right)
2 front outer wheel bearings
2 hub/spindle nuts
1 steering center link
2 tie rod end sets (1 for each side)

Re: Squeak driving me insane
I'd swap the Gabriel shocks for KYB
It's cheaper to buy a wheel bearing set of both inner and outers than to buy them separate.
Plan on servicing the idler arm and steering box

Any particular reason on the shock decision? I'd like something close to stock. So Cal Mark wrote:I'd swap the Gabriel shocks for KYB

My new service manual hasn't arrived yet--what all is involved in servicing the idler arm and steering box?

If you are replacing the front wheel bearings you will also need two oil seals for the front hubs. How about inner and outer sway bar bushings.
Re: Squeak driving me insane
I just don't like the Gabriels on the Spider, I don't feel they were designed for perf driving. The KYBs are probably cheaper than the Gabs and I like the way the perform on the street.
As for the steering box and idler, merely filling them with oil will go a long way towards ease of steering

I changed all my shocks to KYB GR2(GRAY) shocks.I am not familiar w/ Gabriels, but the KYB'S are an excellent handling shock and my ride improved greatly. For $100 for all 4,its the best, cheap upgrade I have done to the car!I dont know that the Gabriels are closer to 'stock' than the KYB's ?

You guys are gonna send me to the poorhouse!
OK, substituting the KYB for the gabs.
Where is a good place to buy individual bushings? And does someone sell a bearing kit that includes everything?

They'll do it every time Nick. But it's because we have your safety in mind.

if you wanna save some dough, skip the front bushings.
but, if you have all the time in the world..buy and install the front bushings separate from the rear bushings.
