Unique valve shim removal

After spend a few hours trying to remove valve shims with the well known and sometimes hated "forked tool"
I came across this video suggesting an alternate procedure. Worked pretty good for me...

Make sure you use a tie wrap without the little steel tooth.
Actually I taped a long thin steel rod to mine.
This made it easier to get the head of the tie wrap under the valve head.
This did away with the "wiggles"

That is pretty clever. Alternatively, I use a small Neodymium magnet, taped to the end of a small flat bladed screwdriver. These magnets are very small but extremely powerful, strong enough to lift the shim straight up and slide it out of the holder.

Certainly interesting. I use the X1/9 tool, it grabs one edge of the bucket rather than the forked tool.

With the magnet, one has to break the oil seal that holds the shim in the bucket by surface tension. But if you rock it back and forth, it lets go and the shim comes right up and out, with zero chance of any scratches.
