Lada style 5th gear for coupe

Post by karhawk »

Looking for freeway 5th gear for a spider trans. I think the Lada 5 speed has a freeway friendly 5th gear and cluster.
Thanks

lada 5th gear doesn't fit 124 gearbox.
it would take some serious machining to make it fit.

And the Lada gearbox does not fit the Spider, the shifter comes out much farther forward. It can be made to fit, but either the console has to be hacked up, or a weird, long, custom made shifter has to be used.

Looking to get a "Lada style" long 5th gear but made for a spider box we are rebuilding. But I'm getting the impression that these parts are hard to find and priced accordingly.

it's been quite a while since they were last produced. nearly impossible to find nowdays.
as i said in other topic, i still have couple of those gear pairs left but i'm not willing to sell them at this time since i need them for my customer's gearboxes. i have advertised rebuilt gearboxes with taller 5th on couple occasions and they get sold quickly.
i'm in the middle of process of getting those gears newly made, but as you may imagine, it's not a simple process, and not a cheap one to add.
in order for it to be done right, i need to get a batch of gears machined and then properly heat treated. either of these steps gets more complicated and more expensive smaller the quantity is. big serious manufacturers don't want to bother if it's not tens of thousands of units, and small manufacturers don't have the equipment to do the proper job. regarding quantities, how many of fiat 124 owners would like to have taller fifth, and how many are actually going to buy it and install it? couple hundred at best.
