I have a 79 Spider 2000. I have a strong odor of fuel. unhooked. Ive checked and found a hose that is leaking fuel. I began to investigate and found several hoses plugged. I think the previous owner installed a new Carb; I've done some digging on the site to see if I could figure it out. Can someone tell me if I should attempt to reconnect the plugged hoses? I'm not a CAR guy but if your house breaks I'm the one to call. Ive labeled the hoses A,B,C,D.

the only one you really need to be concerned about is A, the return line to the tank. You need a filter with a return nipple on it in order to connect the return line

B is the charcoal canister, which collects gas fumes as you fill the gas tank, and then burns them off as you drive, The B hose usually goes to some connection on the intake manifold or carb. So there is a small constant draw upon the canister to pull the fumes out when the engine is running. It also allows makeup air into the gas tank as the fuel is used while driving, through a round plastic cap on its top.
A is the crankcase ventilation hose, which takes compression bypass gases/fumes/cosmic plasma, etc. from the crankcase, up to the intake manifold for burning. I am not sure that this should be plugged?
Your gas fume smell could be from either of these.

So I put in a new filter like you suggestedSo Cal Mark wrote:the only one you really need to be concerned about is A, the return line to the tank. You need a filter with a return nipple on it in order to connect the return line
Fuel began running out of this.
Did I hook the filter up wrong or do I need to replace this hose? If I do would 5/16 heater hose be okay?
