Oil separator crankcase

Post by micbrody »

Just going over list of things I have not inspected.

The large air intake hose and throttle body has very very tiny amount of oily residue. I assume the source of this is from the oil separator hose. Since it is small (unsure if PO ever cleaned the oil), is there any normal maintenance to do?
I read one thing to do is pull flame arrestor in hose and spray with carb/brake cleaner. That seems easy.
Is there any else to do? I really don't want to remove separator unless I have to. Is there anything I should pour down the hose to "clean" separator while its connected to car? I assume
It would eventually end up in oil.

It is normal for a slight oily mist to make its way up to the air cleaner through that vapor hose. Don't pour or spray anything down there, but it is a good idea to take the hose off, and separator apart, and give it a good cleaning. If it gets clogged up with gunk it can cause bad things to happen with the crankcase pressures. It is not too difficult; the worst part I found was trying to get the clamp back on and seated properly. It is a bit fiddly.
