I've got mine

Post by okraman »

Picked my 2017 124 Spider up on October 22nd. What trip home, everything I hoped for and more. It's a white Lusso with premium package, saddle interior with the automatic. Could not find a manual with the combination I wanted. However, I'm extremely happy with the automatic. Had about a 600 mile trip home. So we had lots of time to get acquainted with the car.

Congrats on the new Spider! I picked mine up on Saturday. It's a Classica in bronze with the 6 speed manual. It had all of 6 miles on it when I took it for a test drive. I'm north of 250 already and love the thing more with every mile enjoyed in it. I had not expected these cars to be as good as they are but am more than happy to have been wrong. Pics of your Spider please! Here's mine:

Probably one of the best set of photos I've seen of this car to date. Really nice! Love the color...gorgeous.

I'm personally not a fan of the car - could care less about the interior - lets be real, the original interior on FIATS is pretty economy and that is being generous. It is the exterior that frustrates me. The panelization of the original body is genius. The new FIAT like many BMW's undermines its form factor by the way the body panels are broken up. The hood for example is exceptionally frustrating for me. The lack of a seam at the front of the hood on the original car is exquisite - if only that detail had survived.

All that being said - your car looks fantastic. Just voicing one man's opinion here and I would never turn down the chance to get behind the wheel of that car! Would love to see some photos of the Jerrari! Hens tooth.....

Thanks guys. As much as I love this car, I do agree about the body lines. They seem to cut across areas that should not have a panel line breaking up the cars lines. But that's a small nitpick for me. I don't see any of that while behind the wheel. Here's another shot I took this evening while out on the back roads south of Indy. I just broke 600 miles today, so the factory recommended break in period is officially over.

Oh, here's the Jerrari that's still queen of the fleet:

I bought a red Classica in Manchester NH last year. Love it. This makes my 6th Fiat. I owned a 70 coupe in 75. My favorite car of all time up until now. I also had an 80 124 Spider. Can't compare. Especially on the highway. This thing surprises everyone when you drop down a couple of gears and floor it. Took it to Quebec with the wife. It was a ball... And we got 36 mpg to boot...
I sadly put it up for the winter and have only had it out on a couple of unusually warm days. Waiting for actual spring.

We were fortunate here in Indianapolis in that it was a warm winter. I was able to get the new Spider out a couple of times in December and January and it's been pretty much my daily driver since mid-February. I'm at about 2700 miles now and did the first oil change last week.

I love this little car. In March I put a Good-win racing muffler delete exhaust on it and it sounds fantastic. Not too loud but loud enough to hear while driving with the top down. There's a nice burble now when I let off the throttle and I can hear the diverter valve working now too. Pretty cool.

My little sister was out to visit us in December and liked the Spider enough to go home and buy an Abarth with a manual. Her only complaint is that her commute is too short now. These are really nice little cars and if anyone is looking to add a great daily drive commute car, it's hard to beat these.

Here are a couple of photos of the new exhaust:

That is a nice exhaust! Any day we will get our shipment of 'muffler delete' exhausts. It's available in either 'straight pipe' or resonated versions:

I drove from Detroit to Dallas with the straight pipe version and I was surprised that it was not too loud on the highway. The fact that the engine turns only ~2000 rpm probably helps!
