I have a 79 that had an engine mounter mech fuel pump.
I am going to remove it (I have the block off plate) and install on electric pump.
Should I locate it in the same position as the electric pumps on the FI models?
How about wiring it in.....safety shut off? relay? where should I go for power at the fuse box?
electric fuel pump??

Re: electric fuel pump??
I believe the most common place for mounting the aftermarket electric fuel pumps in the spare tire area. It is generally located between the fuel tank and the spare tire. I gets mounted to the structural member forward of them. This requires either finding the unused wires that were run for a power antenna or running a new wire through the car. I think some people add a fuel filter before the pump.

An inertial shutoff switch for safety is a good idea too.

Re: electric fuel pump??
This is where my trunk mounted fuel pump is located. If you are going the "cube pump" route, the Facet 40-148 works great. I tried to use the 40-104 but was not getting enough fuel pressure or flow at upper RPM even though the pump specs. were correct for the car (PSI Min/Max = 1.5 - 4.0) (GPH=25). Changed to the 40-148 (PSI Min/Max = 2.0 - 4.5) (GPH=25) and my fuel starvation problems are gone (both pumps were new when installed). Midwest-Bayless has the Facet 40-148 cube pump for around $55.

Re: electric fuel pump??
That a filter on the bottom and a check valve on the top?

Yes to both questions (the filter was purchased from Facet and the check valve from Midwest-Bayless). Also, the rubber mounts are really needed to keep the fuel pump noise down.

Re: electric fuel pump??
I've got the other style pump I'm prepping for mine, do you have any problems drawing fuel through the existing top mount setup?

No problem at all, both of the Facet cube pumps I have used have a 24" dry lift.

My only $.02,
Do yourself a tremendous favor and get a quality pump! I went a few years affected with various issues and all were a result of working with some cheap Track Auto junk!
I believe Facet is what's most common with our cars, and yes they're about 3 times the cost of something off the shelf but well worth the investment.
