spiderdan wrote: I can't speak about this for a "show car" but with my daily driver I follow these steps:
1 - wash the bugs off using a bug remover type sponge.
2 - have a beer while it dries.
3 - take a rag and dab on some chrome cleaner/polish
4 - rub it on the front of slats (that's the shiny part) the aluminum behind is gray and doesn't really shine)
5 - rub harder on the dead bugs that you missed in step 1
6 - while waiting for polish to dry to a haze repeat step 2
7 - with soft clean cloth, rub hazy polish off
8 - Wrap a small screw driver with the cloth and clean the globs of polish stuck between the slats (due to too much step 2s)
9 - Stand back, admire a job well done and celebrate with another step 2
10 - Take her out the next day (too many step 2s to drive) and get her all bugged up again.
11 - Repeat as necessary (especially step 2)

Based on Dan's principle a simple grill detailing will take 2 days.

Base your work on the Pareto principle:

80% of the result is established from 20% effort. The last 20% of the result is established by 80% of effort. That said, in order to achieve your 80% result, follow steps 1,3 and 7.
If that's not the answer you're seeking then follow steps 2 and 11.
