Re: My city, Back in Time
Great pics! We went to Expo '67 Montreal; drove up from Boston, when I was 13. That was a lot of fun. I remember all the criticism that the US pavilion got for it's odd cultural display (old boots, etc) and all the accolades it got for Bucky's architecture! Does any of this remain, or has it all been redeveloped?

Re: My city, Back in Time
Most pavilions were razed. Their architecture were built to have a lifespan of 6 months or so. Cold winters would take a toll on them. They did manage to save about half dozen pavilions and some of them are converted to snack bars or restaurants. The most notable pavilions today are the French pavilion which now houses Canada's largest casino and the American pavilion which is now an eco museum owned by Environment Canada.

Btw, the American pavilion caught fire in 1976. The steel trusswork survived the fire and still remains. It remained empty until Environment Canada took it over in 1990 and built the museum within the structure.

My family also took the trip to the Worlds Fair. I'm the tuff guy second from right. Mom looks chic and my older sister looks groovy.

Thanks for sharing. Cute kids! I'm not familiar with the pavilions you're at as i was not born yet, but my parents and siblings are in there somewhere doing the same thing as you guys were.
For the life of me i'm trying to figure out the origins and meaning of that perplexing exhibit you guys are posing at.

The red arrow indicates the property of the sole owner who managed to fight expropriation and to save his soap factory from the steel ball. For this reason the bridge had to deviate from that group of buildings. That was then, in 1927, today nobody would stand a chance. The nearest building still stands, 5 feet away from the bridge.

Re: My city, Back in Time
Eminent Domain has been a great source of fun and merriment here too. God Bless the fellow who kept his soap factory. We had a disgraceful case in the not too distant past, in New Haven CT, where private land was seized to give to a private developer for a private business. Turned out later that we found out that a couple of the SCOTUS members in these parts can't read.

Images of insignificant moments speak louder than any words. It gets you thinking sometimes, what does the setting tell you about the era, what hardships or prosperities have these faces endured in their life, are the folks still alive?
